A Famous Person who cultivated the Tulips..

Holland is well known as the country of Windmills and Tulips. I'm going to tell you who cultivated the tulips.

Just for an information, tulip are actually wild flowers that grow in Central Asia. Early in 1000 AD, they were cultivated by the Turks. In Turky and Iran, they called it : "Lale". In France, they called it : "Tulipe".

Finally it was introduced in Western Europe and Netherlands in the 17th century by

"CAROLUS CLUSIUS" a famous biologist from Vienna who was born on February 19 1526 in Leiden.

He studied at Montpellier with the famous medical professor Guillaume Rondelet, but

he never practiced medicine. Finally he was hired by the University of Leiden to

research medicinal plants. He had seen many beautiful tulip flowers called tulip. While

doing his work, his friend who was living in Istanbul sent him bulbs (which is the species). So, he started

planting the tulips in his garden in Leiden. He planted them more and more and that was the beginning of the amazing bulb (tulip flower). It's called a bulb because the shape looks like a bulb.
